You may discuss any--or a combination--of the following as long as it results in a 5-7 sentence paragraph in response to the text Ugly Children May Get Parental Short Shrift.
- A taboo is something that is not acceptable in social circumstances; for example, calling an infant “ugly.” But exactly why is this so? Why is it more socially acceptable to call an adult “ugly,” but not an infant?
- In the study Bakalar was describing, it clearly states that some parents left their “ugly” babies unattended in the cart, or would let “ugly” children wander off. If the reporter isn’t calling these parents “bad,” then what is Bakalar saying about this particular situation?
- Do you agree with Dr. Harnell when he states that, “…There are a lot of things that make a person more valuable, and physical attractiveness may be one of them”? Explain.
- Respond to two of your peers' comments in no less than 4-5 sentences.
1. What do you think it means when Ms. Best says, "Maybe we haven't progressed as much as we thought we had." Do you agree or disagree? Explain.
ReplyDelete1. I agree what I think Ms. Best is trying to say is why is people so caught up in race. People still don’t feel comfortable with a certain race like in the old days when there was slavery going on people didn’t like black. Nothing has really change how can u go to school with them u would play with them you would want to identify pop multiracial culture but you won’t live next to it but they want to be a part of it. Most people haven’t progressed as we thought they would off.
2. 2. “just because I found out I’m white, I’m not going to act white”
ReplyDeletewhat he is trying to say with quote is that just because he found out he is white it doesn’t mean he is going to change who he is or he is going to act a different way just because he found out he was half white. It’s not going to change who he is or where he came from.
